Richard Caizza – President, Novus MedTech

Richard Caizza (“Rich”) is a recognized pioneer in injection safety, with 40 years of experience designing innovative medical devices that protect both healthcare workers and patients. His career has been defined by a relentless focus on advancing safe injection technology and bringing practical, high-impact solutions to market.

Rich is a named inventor on nearly 60 issued U.S. patents for safety needles and syringes—many of which underpin products commercialized by Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD), a global leader in medical technology. His innovations have been used billions of times worldwide and are reflected in widely recognized products such as the BD SafetyGlide™ needle, BD Integra™ retractable syringe, BD TwinPak™ dual needle shield, BD SoloShot™ auto-disable syringe, and BD Eclipse™ needle with SmartTip™ Technology.

Rich's individual achievements are impressive, but he has also significantly advanced product development across the industry. He began his career at Becton, Dickinson & Company, where he refined his medical device design skills over 25 years. Following that, he branched out to establish his firms, Fulcrum Product Development Consulting (PDC) and Expressions Design Services (EDS). Throughout his career, he has collaborated with leading multinational pharmaceutical and medical device companies to design, develop, and license groundbreaking technologies.

Rich’s global experience also includes serving as Chief Technology Officer for Hope Pharmaceutical, a medical device manufacturer specializing in saline and heparin flush syringes, further strengthening his expertise in high-volume, safety-critical device manufacturing.
